Troubleshooting
When the camera stays black, voice tracking doesn't follow or a key does nothing.
The camera stays black
- System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera: TalkPatch has to be allowed.
- Virtual cameras (OBS, capture cards) only deliver a picture when the source is running. Pick the right camera in the camera chip.
- Another app holding the camera for itself? Close it, then switch the camera off and on again in TalkPatch.
Voice tracking doesn’t follow
- Is the right microphone selected? The level next to the microphone chip has to move when you speak.
- The first time you switch it on, TalkPatch downloads the model, which takes as long as your connection takes. The status chip says “Listening” as soon as it is ready.
- If the status says “Recognition can’t keep up with the audio”, the model is too heavy for the moment: pick a shorter step or a lighter model (Parakeet TDT-CTC 110M, Nemotron at 1120 ms).
- Tracking listens for the words in the prompter text. Improvise all you like, but the line waits until you come back to it.
- Chapter headings and stage directions are ignored on purpose.
A key does nothing
- In the editor, keys are text input. Stop editing first (⌘E).
- Settings → Keys → Shortcuts in the teleprompter window has to be switched on.
- Remote: connected in the Bluetooth settings? It has to show up as a keyboard. Then assign the keys in TalkPatch, which shows you what arrives as you assign.
Stream Deck tiles show “App not running”
- TalkPatch has to be running, and the tiles switch over by themselves.
- “Token outdated”: restart the Stream Deck app or reload the plugin in the Stream Deck software.
- Logs:
~/Library/Application Support/com.elgato.StreamDeck/Plugins/design.starks.talkpatch.sdPlugin/logs/.
Recording doesn’t start
- Video needs a running, ready camera (“Ready” in the recording chip). Without a camera, switch to Audio only.
- TalkPatch flags resolutions it can’t use, so pick Automatic or a lower one.
- The save location has to be writable.
